What is a Nourishing Diet?

In America today, we are taught that a healthy diet looks like a "food pyramid" or “my plate”. This consists of a large percentage of plant products and a relatively small percentage of animal products.

Yet, does this show the whole picture? Or is this even accurate? Can you trust the recommendation coming from the USDA (who is trying to promote American row crop farmers)?
Or is a vegan diet the answer? Or a carnivore? Or paleo? Or…

Who do we trust????
Although I am not promoting any of these diets and do not think that any of them show the whole picture, there is a common underlying similarity with many of them that may hold a key to the mystery. Most of these diets encourage more simple, less processed foods.
In America, where we can go to the store and get about anything we want (even when we live an hour from Walmart), we are heavily reliant on processed, commercially raised foods. This makes us very disconnected from the farm and how these food products are actually raised - especially if we live in a city.
That is why I believe that we should approach our health and what we eat similar to how people have been approaching it for thousands of years. Grass-fed meats, fish, and raw dairy products have been what has primarily fed the world for thousands of years.
This is the approach that the Weston A. Price Foundation has been encouraging for many years - based on research done on primitive cultures around the world. They have found a direct correlation between the deterioration of the health of a primitive culture with the introduction of processed foods.
If you have some time today and want to learn more, the video linked below was what convinced me that I need to make changes to my diet.

Just remember - you will probably be paying tomorrow with negative health consequences if you continue to eat cheap processed food today. Cheaper is almost never better - especially when it is how your body is getting its nourishment and energy.
